BOARD OF ELECTIONSTerm Limits, D.C. Code §1-1312(1)(B) The "District of Columbia Term Limits Initiative of 1995" was submitted to D.C. voters as Initiative No. 49 on November 8, 1994. The result of the voting was 83,865 or 62% for the Initiative and 52,116 or 38% against. When the law became effective, it applied as of January 1, 1995. The law applies to the public offices of Mayor, Council Chairman, Member of the Council, and Member of the Board of Education. It does not apply to the public offices of Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives, Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner, Shadow Senator, or Shadow Representative. TERM LIMITS APPLIES TO THE FOLLOWING PUBLIC OFFICIALSPublic officials elected November 5, 1996, and re-elected in 2000 will not qualify as a candidate eligible to seek re-election for the same office in 2004: At-Large Councilmembers: Harold Brazil, Carol Schwartz Public officials elected November 3, 1998, and if re-elected in 2002 will not qualify as a candidate eligible to seek re-election for the same office in 2006: Mayor: Anthony Williams |
