DC Council August 25, 1998 Dear Neighbor: As I campaign for re-election as your Councilmember, many of you have asked for my views on the critically-important Mayor's race. I write to endorse Tony Williams in the September 15th Democratic primary and the November 3rd general election. Over the last three years, I have worked closely with Mr. Williams in his role as Chief Financial Officer. He has clearly proven his ability to reform the District government and respond to the needs of all residents. His accomplishments include:
Tony Williams will be a strong and effective Mayor. A mayor needs to know those he represents and inspire those he directs. As CFO, Tony talked repeatedly with residents throughout the city to gain perspective on budget priorities. His staff show intense loyalty in giving their own time and energy to his campaign. There is broad diversity within the draft Tony movement that turned into a professional political campaign. Each of these intangibles signals leadership. This election poses a real opportunity for the District to begin rebuilding its government through effective, proven, professional leadership. I urge you to support Tony Williams for Mayor. Sincerely, Kathy Patterson Paid for by the Kathy Patterson for Council Committee David G.

Ward 3 Councilmember Endorses Williams Mayoral BidWashington D.C. -- August 25, 1998 Ward 3 Councilmember Kathy Patterson today threw her support to former District Chief Financial Officer Anthony Williams in the September 15 Democratic primary for mayor. When it comes to leadership on issues important to the District like reforming the government and stabilizing our finances Tony Williams has been there, done that, Patterson said. His is a record of real accomplishments tangible and measurable. Because of his demonstrated leadership, I am delighted to join the growing consensus that Tony Williams should be the next mayor of the District of Columbia. Patterson said she intends to focus the next three weeks before the September 15 primary on get-out-the-vote efforts in Ward 3, historically one of the highest voting wards in the District. A one or two percent increase in turnout could mean thousands of votes and make a real difference, she said. She released an endorsement letter going to 20,000 Ward 3 voters through direct mail and door-to-door distribution. It concludes: This election poses a real opportunity for the District to begin rebuilding its government through effective, proven, professional leadership. I urge you to support Tony Williams for mayor. Paid for by the Kathy Patterson for Council Committee, David G.
