The Hillwood mansion was the home of Marjorie Merriweather Post, who made provisions on her death in 1973 to permit visitors to experience the house, garden and art collections. The art collection includes a portrait of Catherine the Great, the famous collection of Easter Eggs by Faberge, and French as well as Russian porcelain collections. By October, the gardens are expected to frame the interesting sculptures chose by Mrs. Post with fall foliage and chrysanthemums. The unique Russian art collection is housed in the Dacha building.
The tour begins with a brief overview film and is followed by a docent-led tour through the museum and gardens, which takes about 1 1/2 hours.
Our tour will conclude with Tea in a private room reserved for League members and guests. This is an opportunity to introduce prospective new members to our Board, Unit Chairs, Committee Chairs, and members. After the tea, please feel free to browse in the gift shop and continue touring the house and gardens until 5 pm. Directions to the Hillwood Museum are below.
