DISTRICT'S REPUBLICAN PARTY CONDEMNS MAYOR FOR NOT RESPECTING HOME RULE:
Urges Mayor to Practice What He Preaches
Washington D.C. Last evening at a meeting of the D.C. Republican Committee
held in Ward 1 the Committee passed the following resolution:
"We, the D.C. Republican Committee, call upon the Mayor of the District
of Columbia to respect home rule for the District of Columbia. We are extremely surprised by Mayor Williams' total disregard of the D.C. Council's
unanimous decision to vote against the privatization contract for the D.C.
General Hospital. While the Mayor has been quick to criticize others for not
supporting home rule, he should practice what he preaches by working with the
District's elected officials instead of relying on the unelected control board for cover. We are certain that by working together a practical and
amicable solution could have been reached, while at the same time, it's elected officials can prove they can run the District government without
Control Board intervention." |
