COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
WASHINGTON, D.C. 20004

KATHY PATTERSON CHAIRPERSON
COUNCILMEMBER, WARD 3

CHAIRPERSON
COMMITTEE ON THE JUDICIARY
OFFICE: (202) 724-8062
FAX: (202) 724-8118

March 15, 2002

Chief Ronnie Few
Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services
1923 Vermont Avenue NW, Suite 201
Washington D.C. 26401

Dear Chief Few:

I write to request an immediate written response to each allegation raised in recent days by The Washington Times concerning the employment backgrounds of Marcus Anderson, Bruce Cowan, and Gary Garland. The allegations follow:

That Chief Anderson claimed to have aided Dillard University in New Orleans, while the school has no records of that attendance.

That Chief Cowan claimed to have attended the University of Georgia in 1993-94 - implying attendance, as a University student - but the school has no record to confirm that.

That Chief Garland claimed to have attended Dillard including receiving an associate degree; to have completed the schools's Fire Management Program; and to be, currently enrolled in Georgia Perimeter College, when none of the three claims can be confirmed.

That none of the three individuals held position higher than lieutenant in East Point, Georgia, though each claimed to have held the rank of 'chief' in the Georgia department.

That the both you and Chief Garland failed to disclose on financial disclosure statements having served as instructors for the Carl Holmes Executive Development Institute.

In addition to an immediate written response to each allegation I request documentation to corroborate points made in your response. Thank you.

Sincerely yours,
Kathy Patterson
