The D.C. Council is considering medical malpractice reform legislation designed to improve patient safety, limit frivolous lawsuits and keep tabs on insurance premiums, though the physicians' No. 1 priority isn't on the table. The bill does not address caps on jury awards.
I would support caps on jury awards (punitive damages) as well as taking action to limit frivolous lawsuits, keep tabs on insurance premiums and allow that counsel that knowingly files a frivolous malpractice suit be held liable for the opposing party’s attorney fees.
