COMMITTEE TO ELECT DAVID BOWERS
AT-LARGE COUNCILMEMBER (D)
www.votedavidbowers.com
1350 D Street NE. • Washington, DC 20002 • bowers2006@votedavidbowers.com
• 202.722.7027
June 2005
Dear Neighbor and Friend
We are writing this letter to tell you about a young man,
born and raised in Washington, D.C. who has made an important decision.
His name is David Bowers. His decision is to seek election in the
Democratic primary as the At-Large Councilmember of the District of
Columbia in 2006. David has filed his papers and is an official
candidate.
David is a young man who we know and believe is one of
the new young leaders for our great City. We support him and believe
that as you get to know him, you will also enthusiastically support
David. We -bid- ;- - --- -
David is "home grown". Born and raised in the
city. He graduated from the DC Public Schools - Lafayette Elementary,
Alice Deal Jr. High and Woodrow Wilson Senior High School. At the age of
15 as a member of the Mayor's Youth Leadership Institute, David was
elected Youth Mayor. He continues with his work with NO MURDERS DC, a
volunteer movement he began in 2000. He received a BA degree from the
University of Virginia and a Masters of Divinity from Howard University.
He is an ordained minister and currently lives in Ward 6.
David's professional career includes experience as a
Senior Legislative Assistant to U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski, where
he provided policy recommendations and budget analyses on housing and
community development issues. He also served as a Financial and Programs
Advisor for the U.S. Treasury's Community Development Financial
Institutions Fund. This experience was followed by his work managing a
homeownership program in Washington for the AFL-CIO Housing Investment
Trust. He presently serves as the Director of the Enterprise
Foundation's Washington, D.C., office where he directs the local
office's work to increase the supply of affordable housing in the D.C.
area.
As a native Washingtonian, David has a genuine
understanding of the issues that have plagued this city far too long and
prevented too many of its citizens from enjoying the best that the city
has to offer' With his keen intellect, decisiveness and ability to
foster consensus, we believe that David will bring people together to
focus on a common objective - to make DC the "best that it can
be".
David has a bold vision and a sense of urgency to get
things done. It is time for this kind of exciting new leadership. Over
the next months, you will hear from and about David. We believe you will
come to know and support David Bowers as someone who will bring to the
D.C. Council new energy and a commitment to improving the quality of
life for every resident of the District of Columbia.
We are excited to introduce David to you. We ask for your
support as he seeks to represent the residents of our great city.
Sincerely,
Supporters of David Bowers
