DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE 1275 K Street, NW, Suite 102 Washington DC 20005 202/289-8005 dcgop@aol.com PRESS RELEASE
CANDIDATES CERTIFIED TO APPEAR ON BALLOT FOR DC REPUBLICAN CAUCUS-Local Republicans United to Re-elect President Bush and Vote on Party Leaders at February 10th Caucus-Washington, DC....DC Republican Committee Chair Betsy Werronen has certified that the delegates pledged to President Bush and those seeking to fill leadership positions in the local Republican party have submitted the required number of signatures to secure a place on the ballot at the 2004 District of Columbia Republican Caucus. The first ever DC Republican Presidential Preference Caucus will be held on February 10, 2004 at the Hall of Flags, US Chamber of Commerce Building, 1615 H Street, NW, beginning at 5 pm. All registered Republicans are encouraged to attend. Republicans appearing on the ballot for each office were required to collect 1,000 signatures, or 1 percent of the District's duly registered Republicans, whichever is less, on nominating petitions. This standard requirement for elections being conducted by the DC Board of Elections was summarily waived by the Council and Mayor for the non-binding Democratic Presidential Primary, for which candidates were automatically placed on the ballot. A slate of 16 Delegates and 16 Alternates committed to President George W. Bush have been certified to appear on the Caucus ballot. (Under Republican Party rules, the DC Republican Chairman, and both the DC National Committeeman and Committeewoman are automatic delegates to the Convention, giving DC 3 additional Delegates.) No other slate of declared Presidential candidates sought to appear on the ballot, indicating the united support of Republicans in the District of Columbia for the renomination and re-election of President. [Note: The names of the Bush slate of Delegates and Alternates is available on the DCRC website at: http://dcgop.com/caucus.html.] One slate of 82 local Republicans qualified to appear on the ballot to be members of the DC Republican Committee, and two candidates were certified to appear on the ballot for DC's National Committeeman. They are Anthony Parker, the current Finance Chairman for the DC Republican Committee, and James Lowe, the current National Committeeman. Betsy Werronen, current Party Chairman, qualified to appear on the ballot for the DC National Committeewoman. Republicans registered to vote in the District by January 12, 2004 will be eligible to vote at the February 10th Caucus. Early voting will take place at the DCRC headquarters on Friday, February 6th and Saturday, February 7th from 11 am to 2 pm for those who can not participate in the February 10th Caucus. The DCRC headquarters are located at 1275 K Street, NW, Suite 102, Washington, DC (corner of 13th and K Streets, NW). For additional information contact the DCRC at 202/289-8005.
