A BILL IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 

Councilmember Vincent B. Orange, Sr., introduced the following bill, which was referred to the Committee _____.

To amend the District of Columbia Government Comprehensive Merit Personnel Act of 1978 to  increase the compensation for Members of the Council to $122,530 and for the Mayor to $200,000. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this act may be cited as the "Mayor and Councilmember Compensation Change Amendment Act of 2006". 

Sec. 2. Section 1109 of the District of Columbia Government Comprehensive Merit Personnel Act of 1978, effective March 3, 1979 (D.C. Law 2-139; D.C. Official Code §1-611.09), is amended as follows: 

(a) A new subsection (a-1) is added to read as follows: 

"(a-1) Pursuant to section 421(d) of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, approved December 24, 1973 (D.C. Official Code §1-204.21 (d)), effective January 2, 2007, the Mayor shall receive annual compensation in the amount of $200,000, payable in periodic installments.".

(b) Subsection (b)(1) is amended by striking the phrase "$92,530 per year" and inserting the phrase "$122,530 per year" in its place.

Sec. 3. The Council adopts the fiscal impact statement in the committee report as the fiscal impact statement required by section 602(c)(3) of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, approved December 24, 1973 (87 Stat. 813; D.C. Official Code §1-206.02(c)(3)). 

Sec. 4. This act shall take effect following approval by the Mayor (or in the event of veto by the Mayor, action by the Council to override the veto), a 30-day period of Congressional review as provided in section 602(c)(1) of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, approved December 24, 1973 (87 Stat. 813; D.C. Official Code §1-206.02(c)(1)), and publication in the District of Columbia Register.
