A PROPOSED RESOLUTION IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

To confirm the appointment of Ms. JoAnne Ginsberg to the Board of Education of the District of Columbia.

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this resolution may be cited as the "Board of Education of the District of Columbia JoAnne Ginsberg Confirmation Resolution of 2005".

Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia confirms the appointment of:

as a member of the Board of Education of the District of Columbia, established by section 2(a-f) of An Act To fix and regulate the salaries of teachers, schools officers, and other employees of the Board of Education of the District of Columbia, approved June 20, 1906 (34 Stat. 316; D.C. Official Code § 38-101), replacing Mirian Saez, whose term ended December 14, 2004, for a term to end December 14, 2008.

Sec. 3. The Council of the District of Columbia shall transmit a copy of this resolution, upon its adoption, each to the nominee and to the Office of the Mayor.

Sec. 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately.

Local School Restructuring Team Member, JANNEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, one of the first LSRTs in the District of Columbia. July 1992 to June 1994.

  • LSRT responsibilities included developing programs and policies for the school in consultation with the principal, teachers and community

PTA Co-president, JANNEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, July 1991 to June 1992.

  • Responsible for coordination and liaison between the 365-student elementary school and the principal and faculty

Auction Chair, JANNEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, March 1990.

  • Directed entire fundraising event
  • Responsibilities included recruiting and coordinating 60 volunteers, developing new ideas that increased the amount raised by 25 percent, solicitation, invitations, food and beverage, catalog publication, bidding procedures and publicity

BOARD SERVICE

UNITED STATES HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL COUNCIL. Beginning May 2005.

  • Board Member for the Council that oversees the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The Council provides general oversight and guidance of the mission, vision and direction of the Museum.

HORIZONS, summer camp for underprivileged children in Washington. October 2002 to present.

  • Horizons, a national program, will enroll 100 public school students, grades K - 6 during the summer of 2005. Provides a Saturday enrichment program during the school year.

CONGREGATION ADAS ISRAEL, President of the Parents and Teachers Association for pre-school as well as Board Member. November 1986 to June 1990.

  • Liaison between congregation leadership and school parents
  • Managed fundraising events including dinners, fairs and gift sales
  • Directed new book and gift sales
